Dumbbell Workout

Submitted by Fitlifeforever on Tuesday, 23 December 2008No Comment

Dumbbell exercises is part of a complete muscle strength training programs. The uses of dumbbell workout are numerous and can be used to develop the various different elements of strength such as maximal strength, increase muscle mass, power and endurance.

Dumbbells exercise activate smaller muscle fibers to control the exercise as opposed to the resistance machines on the other hand that work muscle groups in very strict planes of movement. The downside of this strict movement is that while some muscle fibers will growth and get significantly stronger, other, smaller muscles are neglected.

Other advantages that dumbbell exercises have over machines is that they fit around your body. It means that your movements can be performed correctly. This is not the case of resistance machines that even if they can be adjusted your movement patter is still dependent of how the machine moves.

This is the case when athletes are training. They typically favor dumbbell exercises over machines as they can replicate sport-specific movements more accurately. They are very conscious about the fact that  they will develop a more balanced physique and structure if most of their routine employs free weight exercises.

The dumbbell exercises shown in the video is an introductory example of how to employ a simple exercise routine with free weights. There are literally an unlimited number of routines you can put together with just a handful of these exercises. Your first step is to determine your goal – general fitness, increased mass, strength or better athletic performance for example. Not only will this dictate which dumbbell routine you select it will also dictate the weight and number of sets and repetitions you choose.
